about wendy froshay

Wendy Froshay mentored under such famous artists as Timothy Clark, Georgeana Ireland, Carl Purcell, Kathy Sutherland, Mona McGuire, the late Diane Pratt as well as Renaissance Master Frank Covino.

Her works continue to be published and distributed throughout the world.

Collectors of Froshay's artwork often marvel at the manner in which her imagery "appears to mystically materialize from simple paper and canvas into glorious color and shape. Color and shape morph into figure, figure melts back into color - becoming one with her canvas."

"Her images shift and her figures come to life, invoking passion and lifting the spirit."

"Wendy's artistry inspires imagination and possesses a unique spiritual quality that stirs the soul, beckoning the viewer to stray into a land of dreams and visions, enchantment and inspiration."

"Her creations live and breathe with an ethereal magic, blending the natural world with the mystical."

Collectors say they "love the colors, the movement, and the sweet balance of the real with the dreamvision."

HISTORY

As a child, Wendy was always creating "something out of nothing". Her toys were scraps of felt and fabric, empty spools, cardboard, glue, markers and paints along with bits and pieces of anything interesting: acorn casings, foil, strings and ceiling wax (and other fancy stuff!). Rather than playing with dolls, she preferred designing doll houses, doll furniture and doll clothes - then sold her creations for pocket money! For the holidays she designed her own gifts and created greeting card characters based on family members. Thus began her lifelong tradition of making gifts and cards for her family and friends... and people began to ask, "How does one get on Wendy's gift list?"

In college, she found to her delight, that she could continue creating her gifts using her assignments, so class projects often became framed prints of her designs or greeting cards.

College art shows found her walking away with arm loads of ribbons and patrons purchasing her art. Wendy's pleasure for creating something out of nothing kept her transforming ordinary objects into art.

After graduation, she continued honing these skills, opening her own design studio in 1987 and working as a freelance professional artist and illustrator while raising her two children.

Wendy experimented with painting on stone, wood, cloth, silk, paper, canvas and glass; while illustrating books, creating designs for T-shirts, jewelry, dish ware, sandstone paintings, calendars, playing cards, greeting cards, logos and corporate identity collections; all the while taking commission work for her first love, oil and watercolor fine art.

For over 20 years, Wendy has shared her exquisite gift of creating enchanted imagery by mentoring others and continues to offer individualized instruction in her private studio as well as in art centers throughout Southern California.
